Prototype de foi

Que dirons-nous donc qu'Abraham notre père a trouvé selon la chair ? Car si Abraham a été justifié par les œuvres, il a de quoi se vanter, mais pas devant Dieu. Car que dit l'Ecriture ? "Abraham crut à Dieu, et cela lui fut imputé à justice." -Romains 4:1-3

Lorsqu'un avion à réaction dévale la piste et s'élève majestueusement pour s'envoler comme une flèche vers sa destination, cela nous rappelle les réalisations de l'ingénierie humaine. Mais on peut aussi nous rappeler qu'aucun d'entre eux n'a été construit sans être conforme au prototype - la forme, le modèle ou la maquette d'origine à partir desquels toute la flotte est conçue. Cette sagesse en ingénierie est fondée sur le principe le plus pratique : ne construire que sur des modèles qui fonctionnent !

Dans l'ordre des choses du "royaume", Abraham a été déclaré "père" de tous ceux qui marchent par la foi en obéissance à Jésus-Christ, le Fils de Dieu. En conséquence, Romains 4 montre Abraham comme un prototype, le "premier d'une lignée", que Dieu a planifié (ou conçu) pour s'élever vers des destins plus élevés que ceux que l'homme déchu ou les humains charnels pourraient jamais atteindre.

On ne nous parle pas ici du début d'Abraham, comme d'un homme qui a fait confiance à la grâce de Dieu pour sauver et non à ses propres œuvres, mais qui a été orienté vers une étude de sa vie. Il s'agit d'un manuel sur la "vie dans le royaume", retraçant les leçons de vie d'un homme dans la foi des siècles avant le Christ. Il mérite que nous nous penchions sur Genèse 12, où Dieu a commencé avec Abraham. Dès son appel initial à la foi, il nous enseigne en termes pratiques et prototypiques : la vie "conçue par la foi" s'envolera !

What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh? For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." -Romans 4:1-3

When a jet aircraft thunders down the runway and rises majestically to soar like an arrow to its destination, we are reminded of the accomplishments of human engineering. But we might also be reminded that not one of those was built without conformity to the prototype—the original form, pattern, or model after which the whole fleet is designed. This wisdom in engineering is founded upon the most practical of principles: only build upon patterns that work!

In the “kingdom” order of things, Abraham has been declared the “father” of all who walk by faith in obedience to Jesus Christ, God’s Son. Accordingly, Romans 4 shows Abraham as a prototype, the “first of a line,” which God planned (or engineered) to soar to higher destinies than fallen man or fleshly motivated humans could ever reach.

We are not told of Abraham’s beginning here, as one who trusted in God’s grace to save and not his own works, but pointed toward a study of his life. This is a handbook on “kingdom living,” charted through one man’s life lessons in faith centuries before Christ. It merits our turning to Genesis 12, where God began with Abraham. From his initial call to faith, we are taught in practical, prototypical terms: the “faith engineered” life will fly!
